An engagement party is one of the most awaited events of your life, besides your actual wedding day. For a really special party you can take the help of a party hire company or you can plan the evening yourself. If you decide to do it yourself just make sure you have plenty of time to organise it.

Budget

Work out how much you have to spend on your engagement party before you begin your planning. You don’t want to go to a lot of trouble arranging for an ice sculptor, for example, and then find you don’t have the money to pay for it. When you have figured out the overall total you can spend, then work out how you will delegate the money.

Invitations

It is always a good idea to send out invitations to any party beforehand as people tend to be busy and their evenings get booked up pretty quickly. To make sure that most people are able to attend, get your engagement party written into their social calendars early. You can have your invitations printed up or you can buy ready-made invitations from a newsagent.

Venue

Venue of your engagement party will depend on how formal the occasion is, how much you have to spend and how many people you have coming. Having the party in a restaurant is always better, although you will be more limited on space. You might want to have a more casual party, so having it at someone’s home is fine.

Food

Decide early whether you will be serving a full meal or if you are just going to provide nibbles. You will need to book your caterer beforehand if you want to hire a great caterer.

Entertainment

You might like to hire entertainment, and it’s also possible that if you are on a tight budget you are better off saving the money to be spent on entertainment for the wedding. If you are planning a big party in a hall or function centre having a band or DJ is a good choice so you can finish the evening off with dancing.
